MATT MAESON
Real and powerful are the two words I would use to sum up Matt Maeson. I learned about him by chance because he was the opener for a band I was going to see. He played only three or four songs, but I would have listened to him play all of his stuff that day. His gives me the feeling that he is documenting his life through his music. The night I was lucky enough to see him was just him and a guitar, and I got to say that is the way to go. The song that really made me want to hear more was called Unconditional. The music is that of a story teller. He paints a picture with his words, and adds the color with the sound of his voice. Watching him live you get hit with someone who is pushing the limit of their vocals to reach the level of emotion they are feeling. Almost a year after that show I heard his song Hallucinogenics on the radio and I was pumped! His latest album was released just last year, and I hope he’s had enough success to keep on making his music. That same album has a stripped down version, and I honestly can not choose between those or the originals to listen to sometimes. I’m hoping when we start opening things up to see music shows that he will enter a tour of his own. Some songs just connect because they have the sound of a broken human being, and that can hit deep. Just expressing what’s going on in the deep dark moments. Not giving hope or a fix in the end, but just an original expression of the human brokenness. I will continue to look out for new music from him even if it’s just one single to be released, and I will post it on here asap.
