LINKIN PARK

I could go on forever about this band’s music, but I’ll try to keep it shortish. If I had to describe Linkin Park’s music to someone I would say it is constant evolution and always changing. From the beginning they have had the most varied sound of any group I have heard. Even if you listen to just their biggest hits you get to see the variability in it. From song to song and even within a song the sound is ever moving. I first heard of Linkin Park from a childhood friend who lived down the street. He had just gotten their cd Hybrid Theory, and I was hooked from the first song. I listened to that album for months. Every chance I got to put it on I did. I saved up money to buy a more expensive cd player that had new technology that stopped the cd from skipping even if you run with it. So crazy that we used to have to worry about that kind of thing. Along with their music even the music videos were crazy to watch! The thing I love the most about their music is all the things it always incorporates. We are talking rock, rap, electronic, and various other pieces of musicality. I mean they did a whole cd combining songs with Jay Z people, and it worked so well! The lead vocalist Mike and Chester have a sound that can be mistaken for no one else. When you hear one second of their voice you know exactly who it is. When artists decide to reinvent themselves, or branch off to a new sound I feel like there is always some negative pushback. I understand when people like a certain sound they just want more of that, but we miss out on so much when we cage in artists to one sound. I was always pumped for the next Linkin Park cd to come out because I knew it was going to have a new twist to it. Even when you are done listening to an album 3923720 times there are always remixes, or there are live versions of songs available. I must say some of those live versions of their music is my preferred listening version over the actual album. We have fast, screaming, and loud songs all the way over to slow and passionate songs, and everything in between. I will always be grateful for Linkin Park to be ever changing and refusing to be boxed into one sound. That kind of freedom is what other artists need, and I hope over time we can start to see more of that. If you have never listened to Linkin Park I encourage you to listen to a few different types of their songs, and I think everyone can find a sound they like coming from them.
